 Services

The Mining Engineering Department has wide spectrum of engineering consulting expertise and supporting facilities. Consultation practices include studies at Minerals processing, Rock Engineering, Underground Safety/Ventilation, Computer-Based Mine Design and Finally Surveying practices. These are supervised by faculty expertise  and industry associates. The department has the experience and required facilities to conduct short courses and industry workshops for mining and geological engineers. Industry short courses in Mine design, mine surveying,  rock engineering and mineral processing are offered. With various faculty expertise the department offers technical review of tenders, bids  industry agreements related to KSA mining practices.

Service Areas

Mineral Processing

•   Evaluation of minerals comminution and the needed energy

•   Separation of minerals according to gab in their physical properties

•   Water recycling studies from minerals processing plants

•   Evaluation of mineral processing tailings and their recycling and or disposal

•   Materials size reduction for batch manufacturing for Brick, cement, aggregates..etc

Although the lab equipments are for experimentations there is a spectrum of additional semi-industrial crushers, mills and screens for batch processing up to number of tons for semi-industrial production and testing.

    Rock Engineering

• Slope stability assessments for rocky slopes

• Examining earth structures components e.g., retaining walls, shotcrete, rock bolts, pilles..etc

• Underground opening e.g., tunnels, caverns, mines and UG construction.

• Strength and Durability testing of rock building materials for construction  (fills and structure members).

Ventilation and Safety

• Work environment assessments in terms of air speed , humidity and dust generation

• Dust problems solution and elimination

• Design ventilation systems for underground constructions

Computer-Based Mine Design Lab

• Mine layout design

• Slope stability assessments for rocky slopes

• Mine opening and tunneling operation design.

• Examining financial models of mining operations.

Mine Surveying

• Regular topographical and geodetic survey jobs for land use

• Underground survey operations and setting out tunnel and opening axis.

• Volumes calculations for stock pilling and production plans at mines and land reclamation

• Calibration of survey tools.
